Last week I received an email asking why I post 100% of certain government news items and other times I don’t. There was also a comment implied that I’m “STEALING CONTENT” when I post the article in its entirety. Naturally, I trashed that email and tried to forget all about, and figured the person would just show up on one of my posts and leave a comment – but, has not done so.
Firstly, around my sites I do post a lot of other people’s content .. in the form of Ezine articles and news releases.
For ezine articles, I always leave the bottom promotional links intact for the author and include the author’s name at the top of the article.
For news articles that other people blog about, I generally just leave it to them and don’t bother repostiing anything, unless I find that item newsworthy, and you might see the blog in one of my “random linking” entries.
For news articles from news sources .. I’m sick and tired of news sites reorganizing their information and having links in my blogs ruined or become invalid. So, this is how I do consider reposting. For heads up news I will continue to link the news item .. for interesting news I will just blockquote some interesting quotes with a “read more” link .. For major information that I believe is important to read – and worry about it ever getting lost or reshuffled .. I will repost the entire article. I also link the source, the current URL when posted and any copyright notice link when available.
In this site .. I’ve been posting articles from the Canada Revenue Agency site and Department of Finance Canada site in two ways. For the stuff that is interesting, but not really important to you or I .. I usually just post the link and either a quick blockquote or nothing at all. You can usually tell the importance of each of these type of news that I post by the number of “Blah Blah Blah’s” set as the tag!
For important information and news .. I do post 100% of everything under the following assumption – that, despite this site is monetized to recouperate certain fees spent to maintain it – I consider this blog a NON-PROFIT OPERATION!
