Steve Miller, former Director of the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), admitted at a Congressional hearing that the taxes collected by the IRS are not mandatory — but voluntary.

When questioned at the House Ways and Means Committee (WMC) hearing last week, Miller told House Representative Devin Nunes that “America’s tax system is ‘voluntary'”. When Nunes remarked for clarification that the US tax code is a “voluntary system”, Miller said, “Agreed.”

House Representative Xavier Becerra commented that the ruse of the IRS is kept as a public confidence in the system scheme to keep Americans paying money to the IRS.

Miller confirmed this is so.

The shuffle at the IRS has landed Danny Werfel as the new acting director.

You have the right to refuse to pay income tax just the same as you have the right to refuse to give your wallet to a guy who puts a gun to your head and threatens to shoot you if you don't hand it over. Of course there is no law mandating that you pay income taxes, but the federal government has a gun to your head, and WILL shoot you if you don't pay up. How do you stop some thug that tries to rob you at gun point? You pull out a bigger gun. The federal government is the largest, and most powerful criminal organization on earth, but the American people would be even more powerful, IF they would ever wake up and join together.

I think the quote was taken out of context for the title of this vdo.

This states that "There is hereby imposed on the taxable income of every individual . . . who is not a married individual a tax determined in accordance with the following table"
Is it right? I provided the link suggesting that require us to pay an income tax? I want to think otherwise but its written.

Concerned Citizen says:

How is their tax system voluntary when they can audit you, lien your assets, seize your assets, fine you, charge you more interest than the Mafia would and can put you in prison if you don't participate? Their idea of "voluntary" and mine are completely different.

Harvey Danger says:

Xavier Becerra, why do we "need to maintain" the system as you say? Federal income taxes only pay down the interest on the national debt, which theoretically cannot be paid off. I mostly like your stance, however, we should be fighting to dismantle the IRS completely and move toward a flat 10% tax for all income levels.

Harvey Danger says:

Anyone who likes this should also watch Aaron Russo's documentary "America: From Freedom to Facism". This is good information… so basically the IRS is a Federal Mafia and we need to shut them down. Plus, the money the public pays them only pays the % on the national debt, and furthermore, it's a direct tax and unapportioned, so it's unconstitutional. Therefore, every monkey who works for the IRS is a domestic terrorist and should be fired and put in jail. Just move to a flat tax of 10% and everyone will be fine.

The irony is that corporations must pay income taxes but they find lots of ways not to. What the IRS is doing, in essence, is treating human beings like they are corporations. It's a bunch of nonsense and it's no wonder the IRS is one of the most hated institutions on the Earth. Someday it will probably be dismantled and we'll look back in history and think that it was absurd and archaic.

Oh, oh! The cat's out of the bag. Time for a taxpayer revolt?
Does this mean the real fools were the conservative groups
who reported their activities to the IRS? Better to go underground.

Yak Diezel says:

YAWN!!!! Can anyone babbling on here actually pinpoint the answer to the question instead of rambling on about what we already know about our government? i mean really, all im trying to understand is whether or not we have the right to stop them from raping us. You don't even get all of your money back at the end of the year and we know our money does not go to schools roads or infrastructure because schools are closing roads are horrible and shit is falling down everywhere!

SkylineToTheSeaAndMe says:

Though the title of the video remains true, that obviously wasn't the context of the discussion in this hearing. For the vast majority of Americans, the income tax isn't voluntary, because it's deducted directly from your paycheck. What's voluntary, is you filing a tax return every year, and collecting any refund owed to you. If you don't file and ask for a refund owed (overpayment), they will gladly keep it (or hold onto it for you until you file to request it). The only time the income tax is voluntary, is if you don't have involuntary withholding (or are exempt from it) on your annual income (such as if you are an "independent contractor", and choose not to file a Form 1099.

jon atkinson says:

Check out joe bannister. Yes fill out voluntarily. But ultimately most Americans don't owe income tax my wages are my property and I have the right to be secure in my person papers and property. Profits can be taxed.

a guy says:

taxes arent voluntary. if you dont pay taxes youre threatened by fines or jailtime backed up by government violence

deejaydfc says:

Voluntary? Well when you owe they force you down to Single ZERO status and keep all that money even if you haven't filed so not so "Voluntary"
With interest and penalties might I add…so you are paying interest and penalties on your "Voluntary" charitable taxes.

Bill “staldo” stalls says:

Truth is…there is no law stating you have to pay federal income tax…period. Look all you want..you will not find it…it doesn't exist people. It's all bs…this is the truth.

Answerability Org says:

As ineffective and corrupt as politicians are, they are not the real problem in America.

There are hundreds of government agencies, full of people who don't do their jobs, don't enforce laws, and give the benefit of the doubt to big business.

If a HUGE media scandal erupts, congress MIGHT hold the head of those organizations accountable. Usually not. And the day to day laziness, incompetence, and corruption that affects the average person in the street goes unanswered-for.

If Taxes are voluntary, why do they file a lien and garnish wages from you if you can't pay them?
